Purchases are not deposits
After a few years with Trade Republic it is easy to lose track: savings plans, one-off purchases, Saveback, a sale followed by a new purchase with the proceeds. Adding up every purchase counts the same money several times. The real question is different: how much did I put in myself, and when?
That is what the Investments tab works out from the CSV export. For every purchase, it tells whether it was paid with new money or with money from a sale or a dividend.
How it is calculated
- New money
- Fresh money that went into a purchase: the number that shows how much you are really saving.
- Reinvested
- Purchases paid with the proceeds of a sale or with dividends.
- The reserve
- Sale proceeds and dividends go into a reserve shared by all accounts. Each purchase draws on that reserve first (on the same day, sales come before purchases); the rest is new money.
You also get the average per month or year, your largest contribution, your latest one, and the number of months in which you actually added money. The chart shows purchases month by month, per account (securities, crypto), with the reinvested share.
A worked example
A made-up example over three months:
- January: €300 savings plan into an ETF. Empty reserve: €300 of new money.
- February: you sell a share for €1,200 and buy €1,000 of bitcoin the same day. The purchase comes entirely from the reserve: €1,000 reinvested, €200 left. Then the savings plan: €200 from the reserve, €100 of new money.
- March: €300 savings plan, empty reserve: €300 of new money.
Total purchases: €1,900. New money: only €700. The other €1,200 was reinvested. Looking only at purchases, you would overestimate your savings by more than double.
How to track your deposits
- Download your transactions as a CSV file (how to export from the app or the browser), ideally since you opened the account: otherwise older sales are missing from the reserve.
- Drop the file above, or try the sample data first.
- The Investments tab opens. Choose the account and the period (month or year); the table shows each period with new money per account, reinvested money, purchases and sales.
What became of the money you invested: see Portfolio performance. How much of it came from Saveback: see Saveback tracker.
Limits
- Only security purchases count, not bank transfers: money left in your cash account does not appear here. Your incoming and outgoing money is on the Spending by category page.
- The reserve is a calculation convention: Trade Republic does not keep a separate account for sale proceeds.
- Securities transferred in from another broker do not appear as purchases.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I see how much I have paid into Trade Republic?
The CSV export contains every transfer and purchase. NokxiStats uses it to show how much new money went into purchases, month by month and in total, separately from reinvested money.
Does Saveback count as my own money?
In this calculation, yes: the Saveback credit is neither a sale nor a dividend, so the purchase it pays for counts as new money. How much of it was Saveback is shown on the Saveback tracker page.
Do you need my login details?
No. You download the export yourself, and the analysis runs in your browser, with no account.
