Trade Republic profit and loss: realised, unrealised, total
What you have already locked in, what is still on paper, and what each holding has made.
Updated 7 October 2026
The Trade Republic app shows one overall gain. It mixes what you locked in by selling, how far the securities you still hold are above or below what you paid, and your dividends. To split them, sale by sale and security by security, you need the CSV export. NokxiStats recomputes the cost of each position and shows unrealised gains on one side, realised gains and income on the other.
Three figures to tell apart
- Unrealised gain
- On securities you still hold: today's value minus their cost. It moves every day and is not in your pocket.
- Realised gain
- On securities you sold: net sale proceeds minus the cost of the shares sold. It is yours, even when the position is fully closed.
- Income
- Dividends, net of tax withheld at source.
The total result is the sum of the three. A loss is the same sum with a minus sign.
What the app shows
According to the Trade Republic help centre, the performance shown below your portfolio value adds realised gains and losses (including on securities you no longer hold), unrealised gains and losses, and dividends and coupons, minus fees and taxes, over the period you select. It is a total: it does not say which part is already locked in.
Sale by sale, security by security
Drop the export into the dashboard; the Performance tab shows:
- Total result in euros, with its percentage on your purchases.
- Unrealised, and right below it “realised and income”: the part already locked in.
- Positions: sort by Result to see what each security has made or cost you. Sold positions stay in the list, tagged “closed”.
- A security's own view (click its row): total result, unrealised, Realised and income, and under Transactions every sale with its gain or loss, computed on the average cost at that time.
With Yearly, the chart and the table give the result of each year, unrealised gains included. Percentages are explained on the Portfolio performance page.
A worked example
A made-up example, with no fees:
- You buy 10 shares at €50, then 10 more at €70: €1,200 invested, an average cost of €60.
- You sell 5 shares at €80: €400 received for a cost of €300. Realised: +€100.
- You keep 15 shares, worth €80 each: €1,200 for a cost of €900. Unrealised: +€300.
- You received €6 of net dividends. Income: +€6.
Total result: €406. If the price falls back to €60, the unrealised gain returns to zero, but the €100 realised and the €6 of dividends remain.
This is not the taxable amount
- NokxiStats works on the average cost of all your purchases, fees included. Depending on your country, the tax authority uses another rule, such as first in, first out.
- For your tax return, only Trade Republic's tax documents count. This page is not tax advice.
- Prices come from Yahoo Finance (closing prices): unrealised gains can differ from the app by a few euros.
- A security transferred from another broker appears in the export without a purchase price: its figures are incomplete.
- The export must start when you opened the account, otherwise the cost is wrong.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I see my realised gains on Trade Republic?
The app includes them in the overall performance. To isolate them, open the export in NokxiStats: the “realised and income” figure under Unrealised, then every sale in the security's own view.
Why does my gain differ from the app?
The amount in euros is close, give or take the prices used. The percentage follows another formula: see Portfolio performance.
Are fees included?
Yes: purchase fees are part of the cost, and sale fees are deducted from the proceeds.
What about dividends?
They are counted separately, as income: see Dividends received.
Do I need to give you my login details?
No. You download the export yourself, and the analysis runs in your browser, with no account and no upload.
